The foundations of Akdeniz University were laid in 1973 with the establishment of the Antalya Faculty of Medicine, and it officially took its place in the higher education system on July 20, 1982. Demonstrating a steady growth in scientific production since its inception, our university has assumed a pioneering role in the regional development of higher education, driven by an ever-strengthening academic capacity and a forward-looking vision.

Throughout this developmental trajectory, Akdeniz University has spearheaded the foundation of new institutions by transferring its academic units in Isparta to Süleyman Demirel University in 1992, its units in Burdur to Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in 2006, and its units in Alanya to Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University in 2015.

Nestled in nature between Dumlupınar Boulevard and the Uncalı district in the heart of Antalya, our main campus operates today as a massive hub of knowledge, offering a dynamic environment for life and intellectual production to its students and scholars. Today, our university effectively conducts its education, scientific research, and community service activities through 25 faculties, 7 institutes, 11 vocational schools, 1 school, 1 conservatory, and 51 research and application centers.
